Making an effort

I must admit that I thoroughly love books. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by the fact that there is so little time to read so many books. Therefore, I’ve had to make an effort to discern which books are worthy of reading and spending the required hours pouring over them. Reading improves the mind. “Whoever gets sense loves his own soul; he who keeps understanding will discover good.” Proverbs 19:8

Wisdom and understanding are so important to happiness in life. When we find wisdom we find life and obtain favor from God. Proverbs 8:35. Wisdom prevents us from making foolish decisions that injure both ourselves and others. Wisdom promotes life, and keeps us from the traps of folly and frivolity.

It has been a joyous journey from being a child who loathed the thought of reading, and would rather play video games for hours on end, to discovering the fruitfulness of study. And its profound impact that it has on our lives.

Primary Hunting 101

I would like to take the opportunity to announce to the world the story I’ve been telling people for the last three months. The story goes like this..

Once upon a time, a twenty-something was waiting in the woods. He arrived at the woods after daylight at 7am. He wanted to get there before daylight, however, he slept a little late. Upon his arrival he was a little flustered, but hopeful because of the dream he had that morning. In his dream, he had killed a deer. And when he awoke he told his wife that he shot a deer in his dream. She replied, “that’s nice.”

After he got out of the car, he sprayed himself with some descenting spray. And proceeded to walk to the spot in the woods where he was to wait. When he got to spot he sat down put his coffee cup down and begin the four-hour process of waiting. The time slowly passed. 8 o’clock, 9 o’clock, 10 o’clock, 11 o’clock. By eleven, it was time to stand up and push the seat back a little further into the cedar as a natural covering. After sitting back down, he remembered he needed to stretch. So, with his loaded 30’30 in his hand he began to stretch and as he was stretching looked to his left where he notice a deer walking only twenty or so yards away. “This is it,” he thought to himself, “no time for hesitating like the other times, quick and easy.” He aimed for a heart/lung shot. “BOOM,” yelled the gun. The deer began to run off without a sound. The hunter was so excited, he just stood there for a second replaying what happen in his mind over and over again. Afraid he might have missed, he walked to where the deer was walking and began looking for a blood trail. Because he didn’t immediately notice a blood trail he followed the path the deer ran, and once he got near the woods he began to notice the blood. He followed the blood until he saw he deer. Heart pounding, adrenaline running, thankful and grateful for some meat for his family. What a day!
